Onboarding

There is a lot of argument around this topic: when launching something new, a product, an app, a webpage–do we need explanatory onboarding tutorials?

Here’s what I think

A joke is a good joke when it makes people laugh without being explained. If you need to explain it, it is not that goog anymore.

Allow me to bring up another example: if you own an Apple product, any kind, you know they take much pride in their packaging. It is always very minimal, very nice and there is never any need for explaining how to open a package.

Same packaging example goes for Jawbone, with their UP products.

My take

I think of this in a very simple way: if you need to explain it, it is not good enough. If it is not good enough, why did you spend time with it?
