Plan For The Future of Your Product

The web has always been a very dynamic environment. It changes constantly, becomes better, faster, more people get connected. But many products do not follow this.

I have been bumping into strange reasonings for years. The most important one of them is that product development in most of the cases does not plan for the future. You already know the brands which do – Apple, Google, Facebook, Twitter, Paypal, Stripe and so many others – but most of the companies don’t.

Here is an example which is bothering me every day. We all know that mobile web is going up, people are getting accustomed with it more and more every day. Smartphones are everywhere, most of the time glued to their owners.

I think it is a huge mistake for any company to not take this into account and put mobile web in the second place or even lower. People will be using their mobile more and more every day, for all kinds of online activities from booking plane tickets to chatting or shopping. Many already do. Not taking this into consideration means that when taken into, it will be too late.

Just as Wayne Gretzky said:

A good hockey player plays where the puck is. A great hockey player plays where the puck is going to be.

So, plan for mobile and for future, not for the presenr. This way you will have a proper mobile site when the users arrive. Because if you don’t, they will go somewhere else.
